Representative Brandt Iden, a Republican representing District 61, continues to try and marshal support for his Internet Gaming Bill, HB 4926. HB 4926 was originally introduced on September 17, 2017 and referred to the House Regulatory Reform Committee. It was reported out to the full House, which passed it on June 12, 2018 before adjourning for the summer.

With the Legislature reconvening, the Senate has now taken up the bill and referred it on September 5, 2018 to the Senate Government Operations Committee. The Government Operations Committee is chaired by Senator Arlan B. Meekhof, the Republican Majority Leader of the Senate.  The Government Operations Committee meets on Tuesdays, but there currently are no meetings scheduled.

There is limited time remaining to get the Internet Gaming Bill passed. The Michigan Senate is scheduled to be in session only 7 days before the election on November 6, 2018.  After the election there are 12 scheduled “lame-duck” sessions.  While it is possible the Senate may take up the bill prior to the general election, it is more likely that if the bill is to be passed, it will occur during the “lame-duck” sessions later in November and December.
