On December 7, Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced that the COVID-19 restrictions implemented on November 15 would be extended through December 20. The three Detroit casinos - MGM Grand Detroit, MotorCity Casino, and Greektown Casino - will continue to be closed during this time. 

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) issued an emergency order extending restrictions on gatherings and requiring face masks. Gatherings are currently prohibited through December 20 at recreational facilities, including Michigan's commercial casinos in Detroit. 

Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) Executive Director Rick Kalm issued an executive order on December 8, implementing the MDHHS order and ordering that casinos must remain closed to the public.
