Detroit Casinos Report $105.44 Million in June Revenue

 

According to the June revenues released by the Michigan Gaming Control Board (“MGCB”), the three Detroit casinos reported $105.44 million in monthly aggregate revenue in June. Table games and slots generated $104.55 million in revenue, and $889,014 from retail sports betting.

The June market shares were:

  • MGM, 46%
  • MotorCity, 30%
  • Hollywood Casino at Greektown, 24%

 

Monthly revenue for table games and slots decreased 6.1% when compared to May 2024 results.

The three Detroit casinos paid $8.4 million in gaming taxes to the State of Michigan. The casinos also reported submitting $12.4 million in wagering taxes and development agreement payments to the City of Detroit in June 2024.

The three Detroit casinos reported $8.4 million in total sports betting handle and total gross receipts were $894,867 for the month of June. Retail sports betting qualified adjusted gross receipts (“QAGR”) reported for June were down by 52.2% when compared to May 2024.

June QAGR by property were:

  • MGM, $154,265
  • MotorCity, $460,693
  • Hollywood Casino at Greektown, $274,05

 

The three Detroit casinos  submitted taxes on retail sports betting in the amounts of $33,605 to the State of Michigan, and $41,072 to the City of Detroit for June 2024, based on their retail sports betting revenue.

In addition to reporting revenue from the three Detroit casinos, the MGCB released revenue numbers from fantasy contest operators.

Fantasy contest operators reported total adjusted revenues of $806,636 and paid taxes of $67,757 during May 2024.

Top revenue generators were:

  • DraftKings, $470,230.13
  • FanDuel, $228,531.22

 


AGA Announces Gaming Hall of Fame Class of 2024

The American Gaming Association (“AGA”) announced the Gaming Hall of Fame Class of 2024. The Gaming Hall of Fame recognizes gaming leaders who have made significant  influence and contributions in the industry. The Class of 2024 will receive recognition at an invitation-only induction ceremony held at G2E 2024 this October.

The Gaming Hall of Fame Class of 2024 honorees are:

  • Jim Allen, Chairman, Hard Rock International; Chief Executive Officer, Seminole Gaming; Former Chairman, American Gaming Association
  • Alan Feldman, Director of Strategic Initiatives and Distinguished Fellow in Responsible Gaming, UNLV International Gaming Institute; Former Executive, MGM Resorts International
  • Debi Nutton, Board Member, Everi Holdings; Executive Coach-Consultant; Former Casino Operations Executive, MGM Resorts, Wynn Resorts

 

“From helping transform tribal gaming and pioneering responsible gaming research to blazing new paths in casino operations, Jim, Alan and Debi have been integral to shaping the modern gaming industry,” said AGA President and CEO Bill Miller.

“The Gaming Hall of Fame honors leaders that have had a distinct impact on our industry’s success,” added AGA Chairman of the Board and Everi Executive Chairman Mike Rumbolz (Gaming Hall of Fame Class of 2022). “This year’s inductees have met and exceeded this threshold throughout their careers and continue to do so in their current work. Hall of Fame honorees are selected by an independent panel of gaming executives. This year’s selection committee include:

Caesars Windsor Cutting Back Hours for Sports Betting

Caesars Windsor has announced that they will be cutting back hours for sportsbook staff members. Originally opened in January 2023, the area will remain open on peak days and times with kiosk betting still open 24/7.

A casino spokesperson told CBC News, “After a careful review of our sports betting trends, the operating hours of Caesars Sportsbook have been adjusted to better align with guest preferences. With these changes there were minor staff adjustments, however all staff have been retained.”

According to Jessica Welman, editor of Canadian Gaming Business, online gambling as a form of betting is “overwhelmingly” more frequented than brick-and-mortar sportsbooks and is consistently on the rise.

 

Women Rising in Gaming Accepting Nominations

Nominations for the third edition of “10 Women Rising in Gaming” are open until August 2nd. Honorees will be announced in mid-August and recognized at the G2E in Las Vegas in October at CDC Gaming’s pre-G2E party and Global Gaming Women’s (“GGW”) Sip & Social.

This year, GGW has partnered with CDC Gaming Reports to offer this honor.  Gaming Publisher Cory Roberts said, “CDC Gaming is committed to highlighting emerging women in gaming who will become the next generation of leaders. Our organization is proud to support Global Gaming Women in their mission to level the playing field in a way that benefits everyone by creating a more innovative, forward-thinking industry.”

This year, for the first time, the title is open to any woman who has worked in the gaming industry for at least five years. Nominations are being solicited from peers and co-workers to identify a wide range of accomplished nominees. “At all stages of their careers, these remarkable women inspire innovation and drive progress, shaping the future of gaming in extraordinary ways. Through this collaboration, we aim to highlight their achievements and encourage a more inclusive and dynamic industry for all” stated GGW President Lauren Bates.

Each nomination should include the name of the nominee; their company; years in the gaming industry; accomplishments, awards, honors; and in 300 words or less, a statement describing why the nominee deserves the honor. Additionally, all nominees must be GGW members. Membership is free.
