Detroit Casinos Report $114.09 Million in May Revenue

The Michigan Gaming Control Board (“MGCB”) released the May 2026 revenue results for Detroit’s three commercial casinos, which reported a combined $114.09 million in aggregate revenue.

Table games and slots generated $113.31 million during the month, while retail sports betting contributed $781,668 in qualified adjusted gross receipts.

May market share was led by MGM at 46%, followed by MotorCity at 32% and Hollywood Casino at Greektown at 22%.

The casinos collectively paid $9.18 million in state gaming taxes and submitted $13.5 million in wagering taxes and development agreement payments to the City of Detroit during May.

Detroit casinos also reported $7.21 million in retail sports betting handle for the month. Based on sports betting activity, the properties paid $29,547 in state taxes and submitted $36,113 in wagering taxes to the City of Detroit.

Michigan Gaming Legislative Update — June 11, 2026

New Legislation: HB 6068 — Slot Machine Definition Revised

Michigan House Bill 6068 was introduced on June 10, 2026 by Reps. Cynthia Neeley (D-District 70), Amos O’Neal (D-District 94), Kimberly Edwards (D-District 12), and Brenda Carter (D-District 53), and referred the same day to the House Committee on Regulatory Reform.

The bill amends the Michigan Penal Code (1931 PA 328) to revise the definition of “slot machine” and add three new statutory exemptions clarifying that the Penal Code’s gaming prohibitions do not apply to: (1) games offered by the Bureau of State Lottery; (2) gaming conducted under a license issued under the Traxler-McCauley-Law-Bowman Bingo Act; and (3) gaming conducted under the Michigan Gaming Control and Revenue Act. The bill also updates the existing slot machine confiscation procedure to align with current statutory language.

The bill was electronically reproduced on June 11, 2026 and is currently pending in committee.

Committee Action: HB 5116 — Millionaire Party Limits

Michigan House Bill 5116, introduced by Rep. Mike Mueller (R-District 72), is scheduled to be taken up by the House Committee on Regulatory Reform on June 11, 2026.

The bill proposes to double the daily imitation money and chip exchange limits for licensed millionaire party events. The standard daily cap would rise from $20,000 to $40,000. For licensees who own their venue, use their own dealers, and operate under a license covering fewer than four days of gaming, the aggregate cap would increase from $80,000 to $160,000.

No other operational requirements would change. Licensing, age restrictions, demarcated gaming area rules, and Michigan Gaming Control Board (“MGCB”) oversight all remain intact.

Michigan Gaming Control Board Seizes 52 Illegal Gambling Machines in Adrian Raid

On June 10, 2026, the Michigan Gaming Control Board (“MGCB”) announced that state investigators seized 52 illegal gambling machines during a June 4 raid at Games 4 U in Adrian, Michigan. The operation was conducted in partnership with the Michigan Department of Attorney General and the Madison Township Police Department.

Authorities confiscated 42 slot-style machines, 10 computer-based gambling machines, $8,715 in cash, and 20 gift cards believed to be connected to the alleged illegal gaming operation.

The enforcement action highlights the MGCB’s ongoing efforts to combat unlicensed gambling activity and protect the integrity of Michigan’s regulated gaming market. The agency reminded businesses that unauthorized gambling operations may result in criminal charges and monetary penalties under Michigan law.

Mick Mulvaney to Participate in NCLGS Discussion on Prediction Markets

The National Council of Legislators from Gaming States (“NCLGS”) announced that Mick Mulvaney will participate in a featured discussion on prediction markets during the 2026 NCLGS Summer Meeting.

Mulvaney, who serves as Executive Director of Gambling is Not Investing, will join policymakers and industry stakeholders to discuss the growing debate surrounding sports event contracts offered through prediction market platforms. The discussion is expected to focus on issues such as consumer protections, state regulatory authority, market oversight, and the relationship between gaming and financial regulation.

The session comes as prediction markets continue to draw increased attention from regulators, lawmakers, and gaming industry leaders. Organizations such as Gambling is Not Investing have raised concerns that sports event contracts may operate outside of existing state and tribal gaming frameworks.

The 2026 NCLGS Summer Meeting will take place July 8-11 at the Hard Rock Hotel San Diego and will bring together legislators, regulators, and gaming industry professionals to discuss emerging issues impacting the gaming industry.

Kewadin Casinos Announces Next Phase of Multi-Million Dollar Upgrade Project

On June 2, 2026, Kewadin Casinos announced the next phase of its multi-million dollar upgrade project, which will bring substantial improvements to its properties across Michigan’s Upper Peninsula over the next three years.

The upgrades will impact all five Kewadin Casino properties and include hotel renovations, expanded RV park accommodations, dining improvements, and new entertainment amenities.

Among the most notable projects are a new sports bar with virtual game bays and a family-friendly waterpark planned for Kewadin Casino Sault Ste. Marie.

The announcement follows earlier phases of the upgrade initiative, which included extensive renovations to the Sault Ste. Marie hotel tower, the addition of new dining concepts, and improvements to the casino’s main entrance.

Owned and operated by the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians, Kewadin Casinos operates five gaming properties throughout Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.
